What is coaching?

Coaching is defined as developing a person's skills and knowledge so that their job performance improves, hopefully leading to the achievement of organisation objectives, focusing on specific skills and goals (CIPD). As organisations face unprecedented times, coaching is a realistic and cost-effective solution which helps unlock the performance potential of individuals and organisations seeking the attainment of goals.

Our Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Coaching Practice aims to:

develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required to become an effective coach in the workplace;
provide you with a critical understanding of the conceptual frameworks, theories, ethics and issues associated with coaching;
enhance your career prospects through developing skills in people management and development.

Course

The programme is multidisciplinary in approach drawing from coaching, psychology, learning and development, organisational behaviour and organisational development. Coaching assumes that an individual is psychologically well and does not require a clinical intervention. Coaching is not foremost a remedial intervention, indeed it is frequently targeted at the already successful.

Study and support
Innovative and distinctive features of the programme include:

the use of actors
audio-visual technologies
small cohort sizes
dedicated time for coaching practice
recording of coaching sessions
coaching experts as guest speakers
coaching sets as well as individual reflection on coaching practice
coaching supervision
critical evaluation of feedback from many sources e.g. observation of professional actors and AV recordings.

Assessment
You will need to undertake written assignments, tutor assessment and a reflective journal.
