Course information
Through the use of case studies and practical workshops this course aims to give delegates the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to:
- provide a thorough understanding of the legal requirements for labelling food products
- give you a clear understanding of the principles of labelling laws and regulations
- make reference to the new European legislative proposals where appropriate.
Course content
Day one:
- Offences of falsely describing food and misleading information on substance and quality
- General labelling requirements of the Food Labelling Regulations 1996, including the name, ingredients listing (inc QUID, additives, allergenic ingredients) and durability indication
- Miscellaneous labelling requirements (Food Labelling Regulations 1996)
- Identification and health marking
- GM labelling.
Day two:
- Claims, nutrition labelling and misleading descriptions
- Health claims
- Organic claims
- Product specific labelling requirements
- Weights and measures
- Price marking
- Intellectual property issues.
