"Before starting the postgraduate course, I studied a four year sandwich degree in Management Sciences.
"I chose to study Real Estate because my placement year made me realise that HR wasn't for me. I explored some alternative career paths and gained a summer internship at Cushman & Wakefield. During that summer I had the opportunity to arrange property viewings, prepare lease templates and measure and inspect buildings. The experience confirmed that Real Estate was a varied and enjoyable career and I knew I had to do an accredited degree for the best opportunities in the industry.
"I chose NTU because the lecturers have worked in industry and approach their teaching from a vocational perspective which I found particularly appealing. I also liked the fact that the course incorporated field trips and opportunities to get out of the classroom. I received a scholarship to study on the course, this was a £1,000 fee reduction for academic merit and personal achievement.
"The facilities and academics at NTU are of a very high standard. The facilities are spacious and modern and the lecturers are very knowledgeable, bringing their own industry experience into the classroom. Many of the academics have a relaxed teaching style which allows you to plenty of opportunity to get involved.
"The highlight of the course has been the field trip to Prague, an industry-related team assignment based around a real-life site.
"The best thing about studying at NTU is how accommodating and helpful all the staff are. The lecturers understand that the course is an intense conversion course and so are always happy to help. Whether this is because you've missed a lecture or just that you need extra guidance on a specific area, lecturers will always find time for you.
"My dissertation focussed on the retail sector and looks into the causes and effects of the decline in occupancy rates and rents.
"NTU offered us industry mentors, my mentor works for Montagu Evans in London. The advice from my mentor is really useful, especially regarding job applications and interviews.
"My plan for the future is to gain a graduate position in the industry and complete my APC to become RICS accredited. NTU have provided me with a RICS accredited qualification but, just as importantly, have developed my wider skill set and provided useful contacts."
