The course will take a holistic approach to exploring technologies used in crime scene investigation, the analysis of evidence in the laboratory, and the presentation of evidence in court. Legal issues surrounding the implementation of new and emerging technologies will be explored to allow you to apply this in researching and developing your own project in a chosen specialist area.
Oral and written presentation skills will be developed and you will engage both in team working and independent study.

Crime Scene Technology
This module includes the latest crime scene recording techniques. Emphasis is also placed on the use of specialist equipment to aid the recovery of evidence; and on the effective presentation of evidence in court.
Digital Forensics
This module will help students develop a good understanding of evidence recovery and analysis in the investigation of eCrime.
Research Methods and IT
This module provides the fundamental research skills relevant to the independent study required for a Masters project in forensic science.
Forensic Databases
You will study the development and utilisation of databases in modern forensic investigations, taking into account legal and ethical considerations.
Materials and Security Imaging
This module aims to introduce the principles underlying a range of techniques and tools used in security, imaging and related image processing.
Security Technologies
In this module you will gain an understanding of contemporary issues in information security.
Research Project
You will plan and undertake a major research project in a specialist area applicable to modern forensic science.
What do you study?
An MSc course comprises 120 credit points of taught modules and 60 credit points obtained from undertaking a research project.
Although this course does not offer a formal placement, it is vocationally focused and students benefit from strong links with industry.
