The groups and centres encourage exploration, enquiry and collaboration between staff and students. More than 70 research groups and centres work across the nine Academic Schools with an aim to shape lives and society.

The School has a particular focus on research into the management of land and water for biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management.
The CRRE recovers and studies the work of labouring-class writers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including John Clare, Robert Bloomfield and Henry Kirke White.
The School of Education is fundamentally engaged in exploring models of learning and teaching.
