Paul is a Professor of Retailing. His major role in Nottingham Business School is as programme leader of the PhD programme, a role which causes me also to represent the School on a number of College and University committees concerning research degrees and research policy. His teaching interests have tended to focus around my research interests in ethics in retailing and marketing, social responsibility, and aspects of retailing.
Aspects of retailing have dominated Paul's research interest over many years, including aspects of location, retail history, retail planning, retail employment, retail change, and retailing and the inner city. Paul has also investigated aspects of business ethics generally and marketing ethics in particular. The intersection of these themes - aspects of retail ethics - particularly interest him. Methodologically Paul has undertaken both qualitative and quantitative research.
Paul has been invited to present findings from his researches to a number of internationally prominent bodies. For example, he was invited to address the German Philosophical Society on ethical issues in e-commerce and was invited to Notre Dame University in the USA to present to the American Marketing Association's workshop on marketing ethics.
Paul is currently engaged with NBS colleagues on an ESRC-funded project to develop closer, more fruitful links between the academic research community and the retail industry.
