Dr Knight is a Chartered Surveyor who heads a group of over thirty full and part time academics covering a range of degrees in subjects including: Construction Management, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, and Property Management. Before being appointed to the position of Head, he was appointed Principal Lecturer in 2003 with specific responsibilities for PhD students across the School.
Dr Knight teaches research methods on a wide range of courses. He has recently edited a book titled "Advanced Research Methods in the Built Environment" with Professor L Ruddock of Salford University and published by Wiley-Blackwell. He also teaches on the University research methods programme for research students and the programme for staff, additionally he is a mentor for the School of Education Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education.
Dr Knight has experience of successfully supervising research degree students to completion. These have included six doctoral students in areas covering:

He is currently joint supervising PhD students in areas relating to the sociology of the professions, logistics management and housing policy. Dr Knight also has an interest in research philosophy and both quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches.
