David Belbin teaches on the English with Creative Writing BA and the MA in Creative Writing where he runs a module on Children's and Young Adult Fiction. He teaches on The Art of Writing undergraduate module and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate creative writing dissertations.
David specialises in fiction, particularly Crime and Young Adult Fiction. He also has a strong interest in comics and graphic novels.
David is the author of more than thirty novels for young adults and many short stories for adults and younger readers. His work has been translated into twenty-five languages. In 2004, he organised Turning Point, the UK's first national conference on Young Adult Fiction.
Since co-editing Stanley Middleton At Eighty with NTU Emeritus Professor John Lucas in 1999, David has edited and written an introduction for a new edition of Middleton's second novel, Harris's Requiem (1960) published by Trent Editions. He also edits crime fiction for Five Leaves Publications, having edited the anthology City Of Crime and the Crime Express series of long stories, with books by Stephen Booth, Rod Duncan and CWA Diamond Dagger winning crime novelist, John Harvey.
David edited the Young Adult crime novel A Beautiful Place For Murder by double Carnegie award winning author, Berlie Doherty. His first adult novel, 'The Pretender' was published in 2008 and has been translated into German, Hebrew and Italian. 'Bone and Cane' followed in 2011. The second in this sequence about crime and politics 'What You Don't Know' was published in 2012.
