Academic areas
The School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences offers a diverse portfolio of courses, professional training awards, services for industry and research collaboration with external organisations.
We specialise in the following academic areas:

Brackenhurst campus has been a leading regional agricultural college for over 60 years and offers a range of professional qualifications for the agricultural sector.

From vet nursing to zoo biology, our animal science provision has an international reputation for excellence. Industry-led courses and modern facilities enable our students to excel in animal sciences.

Based around the Equestrian Centre at Brackenhurst campus, we offer a range of equine science programmes for students who have a passion for horses, from BHS qualifications to Masters degrees.

From the Food Premises Inspection qualification to Higher Education Certificate in Food Science and Technology, we offer a number of collaborative and training solutions for industry.

Our rural location lends itself to the practical application of surveying, GIS, physical geography and waste management and the development of alternative energy sources.

From the modern glasshouse complex and computer-aided design studios, to the preservation of our historic Victorian walled garden – we have built an environment that horticulture students thrive in.

With increasing pressure on natural resources, wildlife and habitats we aim to equip students with the scientific knowledge, practical skills and enthusiasm to protect our natural world.
