Water shrew (Neomys fodiens)

The water shrew is the largest shrew species in Britain, and although it is widely distributed it is an elusive species that has been under studied, making it a species of conservation concern.

The population of water shrews on the Brackenhurst campus is currently being studied by research student Anna Champneys as part of a PhD concerned with ‘factors affecting the survival and distribution of water shrews in the East Midlands’.
