Placement position: Creative Intern
Could you tell me about your work placement?
I am a Creative Intern at The Walt Disney Company, within the European Fashion and Home department. I have such a wide variety of jobs, including:
- basic admin tasks
- locating of assets
- managing character art
- working with my line manager and the designers on the organisation of style guides
- managing the sending out of samples.
I have learned that you need to be extremely organised and need to work well under pressure. I have also learned that being nice to people goes a long way, and going out of your way to help someone can give good results.
What was the highlight of your placement year?
As I haven't been here very long yet I am anticipating a lot more great things, but so far the highlights have been meeting Mickey Mouse, and going to the premiere of a Christmas Carol! I have also had amazing training in Adobe Illustrator and other applications which are used extensively in the retail industry.
Has your placement experience helped you make a decision regarding your future career?
Definitely! I know now that I would like to work in a design team after university and be creative in my career choice.
Would you recommend NTU and your course?
I would recommend it because of the placement year. Although I didn't realise the course was going to be so business orientated, this is a good thing as it means there is a wider variety of jobs available to you afterwards and there is such a wide range of skills and knowledge that you accumulate over the four years.
