Placement position: Assistant Garment Technologist
Could you tell me about your work placement?
Currently, I am on work placement at George House for Asda. my title is Assistant Garment Technologist for G21 and I look at all quality and fit aspects to a garment. My job role includes, returns reports, garment fit, test reports and commercial acceptance, gold seal approvals, benchmarking, and project work. My role within the company is highly regarded as George holds the 100 day quality guarantee for its entire product range. Although my job carries enormous amounts of pressure, it has been extremely useful for my personal development and helped me decide what area of fashion management to focus on.
What was the highlight of your placement year?
My placement highlights so far include the invaluable training offered by the George Academy and gaining industry professional experience at George House.
Has your placement experience helped you make a decision regarding your future career?
The knowledge gained from a placement year is priceless and essential for personal development and experience. I suggest every student takes the opportunity of an industry gap year. Advice I would give to any student considering an industry placement is; impress on the little tasks and be prepared to deal with difficult situations. Showing willingness to get involved is essential.
Would you recommend NTU and your course?
Nottingham Trent University is a fantastic place to study and I cannot recommend it enough. The University has excellent facilities to study, research and conduct group meetings for team projects. All lecturers are on hand to help and will go the extra mile for you. Nottingham is a great place for nightlife and socialising, and I have met the most amazing people while studying at the University and cannot recommend the area enough. I highly suggest Nottingham Trent University if you are considering Higher Education. You will not find a better University and course around that offers the content this one does. I'm proud to say I'm an NTU student.
