How to apply: MA courses
You can apply for a place on any of our Art and Design MA courses by completing an online application.
Personal Statement
Your course of study will be based on the research, development and production of a major project that you'll propose. Your personal statement should be submitted as part of your online application form in the personal statement field.
It should be approximately 500 words and include the following:
- your aims and motivations to study within Branding and Identity Design
- what you hope to achieve upon graduation from this course
- any specialist areas or ideas that you'd like to explore within your studies
- any practical skills that you possess that you think are relevant to your studies.
Please also include what your expertise is within the subject area, and whether you have any professional working experience.
If you are applying for our MA International Fashion Business you won't need to complete a Personal statement, but you will need to submit a short report or presentation illustrating your knowledge and perspective on an aspect of the fashion industry.
Examples of work
Most of our MA courses require for you to submit examples of your work as part of your application. Please upload these as part of your online application.
For full details on what we require, please read our Masters Work Submission information.
The following courses don't require you to submit examples of work:
- MA Fashion Business Futures
- MA Fashion Marketing and Communication
- MA International Fashion Business.
Deadline for applications
If you want to start one of our MA courses in September, you can apply any time up until the end of August (the month before). As many of our courses are popular however, we recommend you apply as soon as you are able to.
Assessment of applications
The details in your application form, personal statement and examples of work (if requested), will all be carefully considered when assessing your application. We will be looking for evidence of your creativity, innovation, intellectual engagement and, if appropriate, your technical skills.
Decisions
We aim to let you know our decision within 20 working days of receiving your completed application, personal statement and examples of work (if requested).
International applicants
Competence in written and spoken English is essential. English language entry requirements for courses in the School of Art & Design, and a full list of all English language qualifications accepted by the University are available on our website.
If you don't have the required score, find out more about our Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP) courses which can help you to bring your score up to the necessary level.
Representatives of the School of Art & Design regularly attend international education fairs to advise potential international applicants. Interviews can be arranged at these events. Contact your local British Council education counselling service for more information.
