How to apply: MA courses

You can apply for a place on any of our Art and Design MA courses by completing an online application.

Project proposal and personal statement

The project proposal is a very important part of the application and needs to form part of the personal statement that you are required to submit with your application.

Your course of study will be based on the research, development and production of a major project, which will be initiated and proposed by you.

In order to understand how we can support your studies, we would like to understand your thinking of what your project may be. Therefore, within your personal statement please include the following in order that your application can be assessed, this should be no more than 500 words.

  • What might the title of your Masters Project might be?
  • Describe the specific area of interest or specialism you have in your chosen subject area.
  • Outline what relevant skills you have, and what further skills you might want to learn.
  • Suggest the audience for your work; for example, which kind of viewers, consumers, employers or publishers is your work aimed at.
  • Explain why you want to research and create work within this area, what you hope it will achieve, and how you might do it.
  • Describe what resources (technical or other) you might need to do complete your project.
  • Let us know which artists / designers / creative practitioners have influenced your work.

If you are applying for our MA International Fashion Business you won't need to complete a project proposal and personal statement, but you will need to submit a short report or presentation illustrating your knowledge and perspective on an aspect of the fashion industry.

Examples of work
Most of our MA courses require for you to submit examples of your work as part of your application.  Please upload these as part of your online application.

For full details on what we require, please read our Masters Work Submission information. PDF icon

The following courses don't require you to submit examples of work:

  • MA International Fashion Business.
