Visit the Nottingham Trent University lace archive
Details:
Nottingham is renowned worldwide for its association with the design, manufacture and production of textiles, particularly machine-made lace which was invented here. The collection at Nottingham Trent University is noteworthy in two respects:
- It was set up as a teaching aid during the establishment of the metropolitan Schools of Design during the Victorian era.
- It continues to influence contemporary textile practice.
On the 17 November the University is inviting the public to view a variety of samples from the lace archive. An archive that holds 75,000 items of lace, as single pieces, as items in manufacturers sample books, as portfolios of machine-made and hand-made lace.
To find out more about the history if the lace archive please visit the Art & Design textile collection and archive pages.
This event is open to the public and free to attend - no prior booking is required.
The viewing will take place alongside a number of activities taking place at Nottingham Trent University on Saturday 17 November.
To view the list of activities please visit the Lace:here:now big weekend pages on the NTU website.
