Saturday club

The National Art & Design Saturday Club
The School of Art & Design and the University's Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach team are working in partnership with the Sorrell Foundation in providing young people the opportunity to study art and design every Saturday morning for 30 weeks.
This free initiative is aimed at 14 – 16-year-olds and began in November 2011, and, led by one of our academics, aims to nurture young people's talents, improve their skills, increase their confidence and raise their aspirations, while giving them an insight into studying at university.
The 30 pupils from local schools and colleges who have signed up to the Club will be taking part in a range of activities that include video editing, photography, life drawings, painting, embroidery,, and typography. As part of the project, the pupils will also go on a number trips to local exhibitions before taking part in a summer exhibition of their own.
The Sorrell Foundation
The National Art & Design Saturday Club was set up by the Sorrell Foundation, a charitable organisation dedicated to inspiring creativity in young people and giving them pathways to further and higher education. The Foundation has a small core team experienced in creating and managing ambitious and innovative programmes nationally, with strategic guidance and support from the trustees and steering committee.
Over the past ten years, the Foundation has worked with 10,000 young people across its programmes, pioneering its model of engagement that joins up young people, in and out of school, with professional practitioners and students of art and design. Its work with disadvantaged young people, who are often not in school, including projects such as Myplace and Design out Crime, applies to the same principles of engagement.
This joined-up model is at the heart of the Sorrell Foundation's creative programmes and continues to be innovative.
The School of Art & Design at Nottingham Trent University is proud to support the Sorrell Foundation.
