Work placements
The University has a first-class reputation in fostering and maintaining relationships with employers. This is because we are continually developing relationships with organisations and industry professionals regionally, nationally and internationally. Our business connections contribute and support placement schemes across the University.
We're in the top ten of UK institutions for sending undergraduate students on year-long work placements (HESA student record data, 2008-09), and we were a finalist in the 2011 National Placement and Internship Award for our forward-thinking attitude to work-based learning.
We can help you realise your business objectives by providing high calibre students and graduates on part-time or fixed-term placements. A work placement is usually a paid period of supervised work experience, allowing students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice in a real working environment.
Every year we facilitate over 2,500 student placement opportunities in public and private sector organisations all over the world. These companies subsequently employ many of our students upon graduation. Our students work internationally with Adidas, AstraZeneca, BBC, Microsoft and Rolls-Royce.
There are real benefits that placement students can bring to any organisation, including:
- the opportunity to assess potential recruits for your firm's future needs
- an increased awareness of up-to-date academic developments relevant to your firm’s sector
- flexibility in staff deployment
- exceptionally motivated, committed and loyal employees
- consistent levels of cost efficiency, including the initial recruitment phase followed by reduced training (no fees)
- international students who bring language and cultural expertise
- placements to enhance the firm’s image and create strong PR opportunities
- access to valuable contacts leading to longer-term relationships with the University.
"We can talk about mutuality with NTU – a partnership in its truest sense. Xerox gets high quality students who play an important role in the company and return to the University with real world experience. Xerox is keen to maintain its links with NTU because of the quality of the students that have historically come through the placement programme. Their reputation precedes them – these students are flexible, hardworking and meet high expectations."
