Strand 3: Assessment and feedback
Using TurnitinUK as a proofing tool – a school approach Trevor Pull, LTSU and School of Arts and Humanities Following a three-year pilot in the English subject the School of Arts and Humanities has agreed a school wide policy in which
students are to be given one formative submission for each assignment. The session will outline the conclusions from the pilot
and explain the implementation of the policy.
Are you FIT for feedback? Online assessment Mandy Clark, School Colleges and Community Outreach When student's progress from school to University, the language of education changes. Everyday words that academics use have
different meanings for students new to HE. To help student transition I developed a NOW-based assessment to assist with this
translation process that builds on the work “What is feedback?” by Dr Michelle Pepin (ADBE). View PowerPoint presentation
Assessment and Feedback Profile Jackie Hardy, School of Social Sciences The Profile is a NOW application which allows the programme leader and the staff team to see how all students are progressing
by a colour-coded entry, along with the feedback for each assignment. It also allows students to see all their marks and feedback
across the programme.
Promoting effective assessment of distance e-learning Elisabetta Verderio Edwards, School of Science and Technology Assessment of distance learning poses several novel challenges compared to on-campus learning. This talk will draw on data
from interviews conducted with staff to discuss a range of creative distance assessment options which are suitable for testing
the learning outcomes of M-level biomedical sciences students. The talk will also draw attention to some of the barriers to
the development of a coherent framework of activities and assessment methods. View PowerPoint presentation
Kick-starting the use of ePortfolio Trevor Pull, School of Arts and Humanities and LTSU There are several modules in Arts and Humanities in which activities involving the use of the ePortfolio tool in NOW have
been embedded. The session will demonstrate some of the ways this has been done and how it is hoped that it will lead to greater
use of the tool by students.
Enabling students to help themselves by using self-assessment on NOW James Leinster, Nottingham Business School In this short presentation, James will share his thoughts on how he is using the self-assessment facility on NOW in helping
students to engage after each face-to-face teaching session. Initial feedback from students on two postgraduate programmes
is that self-assessment can be effective and is a useful tool.
