This session discussed how the social networking tool Twitter was used to engage students in a fortnightly debating session. A cohort of 56 year 2 Psychology students participated in fortnightly debates using the microblogging site Twitter.

E-submissions, e-marking and e-feedback at NTU

The e-assessment IS/CADQ project focuses on technical developments to support the management of e-submissions of coursework at NTU. The presentation offered an overview of the benefits and challenges, the proposed workflow of coursework submissions in an e-submissions context and the features of the proposed solution.

Arts and Humanities experience of online submission

A session that fed back on the Arts and Humanities experience of online submission. Including an outline of the school guidelines, support materials developed, feedback from tutors on the experience, lessons learnt, modifications to the guidelines for 2012/13 taking into account experience and central guidelines.

Anyone can record and edit audio feedback for learning materials

Anyone can record and edit audio! It’s easy! This session was aimed at the technophobe, Dr Stuart Jolly demonstrated how to record audio, using a digital voice recorder or computer, edit it, filter it and save it using the Audacity software, to use for feedback and in the production of learning materials, e.g. podcasts.

Not NOW! Homepage histories and teacherly tweets

Running across the top of every learning room in NOW is a series of links. This is the NAVbar. Most academics populate it with a selection drawn from the set list of pre-prepared options. It is possible to enrich the NAVbar by inserting additional, customised links. This session will explored its uses.

Computer based assessment (CBA): an overview

This session presented an overview of Computer-Based Assessment (CBA). It introduced participants to principles and uses of CBA, outlined some key considerations for its implementation at NTU (including use of NOW) and gave a number of practical pointers for individual practice.
Including:

  • Types of assessment: diagnostic, formative, summative
  • Question types: surface learning vs deep learning
  • Question design: key tips for writing effective objective test questions
  • Brief demo: using NOW for CBA

Responding to student feedback: working as a team to improve accessibility of NOW
