Proceedings of the 10th Annual Learning and Teaching Conference, 2008
Foreword
These proceedings bring together a selection of the papers presented at Nottingham Trent University's 2008 Annual Learning
and Teaching Conference. This was the 10th year of the conference and the largest event to date.
There were two themes. Inspiring learning found expression in several strands: pedagogies of elearning; research-informed
teaching; scholarly communities; involving students as partners; and inclusive assessment practices. The theme of Teaching
in a global context included papers on sustainable development; internationalising the curriculum; academic support of international
students; and international partnership in professional development.
Jude Carroll (Oxford Brookes University) considered both themes in her thought provoking Keynote paper, 'Inspiration and internationalisation:
who needs them?'. In the workshop that followed, she discussed students' views on working in diverse groups and their perception
of the impact on their learning.
This year proceedings are, for the first time, in an online format and from this page the reader can connect to abstracts,
PowerPoint slides with associated papers, plus videos of sessions.
This conference could not take place without the continuing commitment of colleagues, many of who return each year and are
generous in presenting papers and sharing thier practice. Thanks are also due to those colleagues who reviewed papers, advised
on the programme, organised the event and chaired sessions
