Guidance, tips and presentations
The following resources are examples of conference presentations, websites and guidance from across the HE sector which colleagues
may find useful. PLEASE NOTE: these are for information only, Nottingham Trent University policies and strategies should take
precedence.
Assessment
- The TechDis mission is to support the education sector in achieving greater accessibility and inclusion by stimulating innovation and providing
expert advice and guidance on disability and technology.
- Presentations from the Inclusive Assessment Policy and Practice in Higher Education seminar (Higher Education Academy May
2011)
- The Oxford Brookes University statement on Managing Diversity and Inclusive Assessment, whilst recognising that every form of assessment has the capacity to disadvantage someone, encourages staff to employ a
range of assessment methods.The guide offers suggestions for managing student expectations and ensuring assessment criteria
are understood.
Accessibility
- The UCL Disability Website provides detailed information on a range of specific disabilities and links to further supporting information for academics
and students.
- Inclusion by Degrees examines the experience of disabled students on studying foundation degrees from application through to graduation.
- In Accessibility as Everyday Good Practice Horrigan S. and Oledzki M. address attitudes towards accessibility and provide straightforward accessibility tips.
- The W3C Web Accessibility Initiative provides guidance and tips on web accessibility and links to accessibility suggestions with specific disabilities
in mind. This resource is general rather than educationally based but gives good examples of how to use the web in an accessible
manner which could be transferred to all e-learning activities.
- The NTU eLearning Development Team have guidance on creating accessible content and resources within the eLearning Community website
- Disability Equality in Education (DEE) supports the inclusion on disabled people in mainstream education
