  • Academic Board has ultimate responsibility for the standards and quality of educational provision at NTU. Its policy, procedures and regulations are set out in the ASQ Handbook.
  • Academic Board has established the Academic Standards and Quality Committee (ASQC) to implement and monitor its policy, procedures and regulations in respect of taught provision.
  • ASQC has two sub-committees:
    • The Course Development Sub-Committee
    • The Validation Service Sub-Committee
  • The Centre for Academic Development and Quality (CADQ, Academic Office and Academic Planning support the operation of the framework.
  • Each School has a School Academic Standards and Quality Committee (SASQC). SASQCs have responsibilities for monitoring standards and enhancing quality at School level. Each SASQC produces an annual School Standards and Quality Report (SSQR).
  • Each course will have a course committee that monitors standards and quality at course level. It will produce an annual Course Standards and Quality Report (CSQR).
  • Each course will have a course leader (or equivalent) with prime responsibility for academic leadership.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in the University's framework for assuring standards and quality.
  • Each new course is subject to an initial approval process and to respecification from time to time. School-wide course quality issues are also considered during Periodic School Review (see Section 6 of the ASQ Handbook) and through consideration of CSQRs.
  • Research Degrees and Higher Awards are governed by separate policies, procedures and regulations (see Section 14 of the ASQ Handbook). The University's Research Degrees Committee (URDC) acts in a similar capacity to ASQC and reports to Academic Board. Programmes of supervised research are subject to initial approval and regular monitoring by College Research Degrees Committees (CRDCs). The Graduate School support the operation of research degrees.
  • Full details of the University's academic standards and quality framework can be found in Section 2 of the ASQ Handbook.
