Section 6: Periodic School Review
- The Periodic School Review (PSR) acknowledges the significant role that Schools play in influencing, developing and delivering
the University's objectives in the areas of quality assurance and enhancement.
- All Schools within the University are reviewed once every five years, according to the published PSR cycle.
- The focus of PSR is the review of the quality assurance and enhancement practices, procedures and strategies within the School,
as defined in their School Reflective Analysis document (SRAD) and the University's Academic Standards and Quality Handbook.
- The PSR model seeks to support the School, its staff and students in the continuing reflection and enhancement of its provision.
- The review is undertaken by a team of trained reviewers, comprising an external specialist(s), at least two internal reviewers
(staff from other academic teams), a senior member of the Centre for Academic Development and Quality (CADQ), a representative
of the student body and a Review Chair (a senior member of the University, for example a Head of College).
- Based on evidence from the documentation provided in advance and the discussions that take place during the review event itself,
the review panel arrive at a judgement about each of the aspects that have been considered.
- The panel also agrees any recommendations and commendations. The recommendations indicate the timeframe within which the review
panel considers that the recommendations should be acted upon. Commendations might include reference to good practice observed
by the panel and / or affirmation of developments already in place, or planned, to address previously identified issues. The
rationale and evidence base for these judgements, recommendations and commendations are articulated in the Periodic School
Review report.
