Section 8: Student Evaluation of Courses and Teaching
- The University's policy on student evaluation is built on the assumption that it is impossible to appraise and enhance the
quality of learning without involving students in its evaluation.
- Staff are required to collect, collate, analyse and act on students' evaluation of specified aspects of courses at various
stages of their experience of courses:
- at module level, to inform module leaders' and tutors' evaluation and critical reflections on the module
- at each year end to inform course monitoring and reporting processes (ref. Section 5 of this Handbook)
- at course end to inform course monitoring and reporting processes.
- The policy contains a section on key issues in implementation, which gives guidance on:
- the range and variety of methods of gaining student evaluation to ensure contributions from the entire student cohort;
- the usage of student-friendly language
- the recording of the process and results
- the significance of student evaluation as part of the course and School monitoring and reporting procedures.
- All Schools have to demonstrate where actions have been taken in the light of feedback from students and where, for good reasons,
it has not been taken.
- A University-wide evaluation survey is undertaken every two years to assess student views on all aspects of the student experience.
- This policy is due for renewal in 2012/13
- Full details can be found in Section 8 of the ASQ Handbook.
