Section 9: Peer Review of Learning, Teaching and Assessment
- The University has a peer review scheme that aims to:
- contribute to the ongoing development of learning opportunities for students;
- encourage colleagues to engage in dialogue about, and reflect on, their practice;
- foster discussion and sharing of practice; and to
- help inform staff development planning.
- Peer review is organised by academic teams (subject, cluster or division, as appropriate to context). Responsibility for the
scheme lies with the Academic Team Leader (ATL), although another named individual may co-ordinate the process.
- All staff engaged in teaching and the support of learning should normally engage in peer review at least once every two years
(with some exceptions).
- Organisation by academic team does not preclude whole-School schemes, or complementary opt-in schemes, where these are considered
appropriate.
- The policy gives scope for a variety of models of peer review.
- Each ATL makes an annual report on peer review to SASQC, and pertinent issues from these inform the School Standards and Quality
Report. However, Schools may wish to nominate an ATL with overall reporting responsibility.
- All reporting respects the principle of confidentiality for individuals.
- The Learning and Teaching Co-ordinator should consider the ATL report(s) on behalf of SASQC, maintaining knowledge of the operation of peer review in the School
and making recommendations to SASQC where appropriate.
- Full details can be found in Section 9 of the ASQ Handbook.
