Section 14: Research Degree and Higher Awards
- The University may award research degrees and higher awards (located at Level D in the University's award framework - referred
to as Level 8 in the NQF).
- These awards are governed by the following regulations:
14A - Regulations for research degrees. These cover research degree students studying approved programmes of supervised research
leading to MPhil and PhD. They also include professional doctorate programmes. The regulations were substantially revised
in January 2006, since when a small number of amendments have been made (a note setting out all these amendments is available
for download. See right-hand link).
14B - Regulations for the award of higher doctorates. (revised version date October 2009).
14C - Regulations for the award of PhD by published works (revised in January 2008).
The University may award the following professional doctorates:
- DBA - Doctor of Business Administration;
- EdD - Doctor of Education;
- DLegalPrac - Doctor of Legal Practice;
- DMedSci - Doctor of Medical Science;
- DPsych - Doctor of Psychology;
- DPA - Doctor of Public Administration;
- DSocPrac - Doctor of Social Practices;
- Doctor of Digital Media (DDM);
- Doctor of Fashion Industry (DFI);
- Doctor of Fine Art (DFA);
- Professional Doctorate in Journalism, Media and Communication (DProf);
- Professional Doctorate in Museum and Heritage Management (DProf);
- Professional Doctorate in Applied Languages and Linguistics (DProf);
- Professional Doctorate in International Development and Global Cultural Policy (DProf).
