Transitional homes for young people: an evaluation of a prevention project for young people at risk of homelessness in Nottingham Supervisor: Dr Graham Bowpitt (Social Sciences)
Nottinghamshire YMCA has many years of experience at its Nottingham hostel in homelessness prevention, especially with young
people who have left or been evicted from their family home and young care leavers. Young people in these situations are at
great risk of sinking into a ‘chronically excluded’ lifestyle of homelessness, crime and substance misuse. The purpose of
this project is to develop methods for evaluating a transitional housing project for young people at risk of homelessness
specifically in terms of the goals of the project regarding independent living and reducing the risk of homelessness and exclusion.
Student tasks will include undertaking a literature review, reviewing YMCA documents on the transitional housing project,
analysing relevant service user data-bases (if appropriate), conducting and transcribing focus groups and interviews, analysing
data, report-writing and other dissemination activities.
