SPUR Project
2008 Winner (14 of 15)
Research Assistance for ‘Writing Technologies’ Online Journal. Supervisors: Dr Philip Leonard, Dr Daniel Cordle (English)
At the time of the project Writing Technologies (ISSN 1754-9035) was a new, peer-reviewed international journal, hosted at
NTU, with an Editorial Board drawn from experts in the field from several continents. The student helped both to build the
journal’s external-facing content and to build connections between it and the English undergraduate curriculum at NTU. The
project provided an opportunity for the bursary student to work on a proper academic journal, to make contacts with scholars
researching in burgeoning fields (the literary and cultural representation of technology; the changing status of the literary
in the light of new modes of writing and dissemination), and also to make a real working difference to the publication.
