How it works
The Acceler8 Award is designed to be completed in your second year. Therefore the Acceler8 Award is open for all second year students. If you are in your final year and would like to apply for a place on the Award please contact a member of the Acceler8 team via email.
The award is in addition to your degree and will give you practical help and support to find a job as well as an impressive range of experiences.
The award is made up of three sections, experience, core and skills sessions.
Experience
You need to complete 50 hours of paid or voluntary work, reflecting on how this improves specific skills. You will be provided with a Skills Development Profile booklet to help do this. Advice will be given on how to complete this once you have been given a place on the Award scheme.
Core sessions
You must attend four workshops that will help you successfully secure employment after graduating. These are:
- Getting started with the Award and managing your career
- Application forms
- CV planning and covering letters
- Interview techniques and skills
To find out more visit the core workshops page.
Skills sessions
You need to attend four sessions from a range of skill-based workshops. These sessions will develop skills often referred to as transferable skills. Sessions include leadership, networking, teamworking and more. To find out more visit the skills sessions page.
Award completion
Once the experience, core and skills sessions are completed you must submit your completed Skills Development Profile, CV and reflective pieces from the skills sessions.
Following this you will be interviewed by a panel of experts, made up of employers and people within the University. Feedback will be provided to improve your performance at further interviews.
