Work experience
You are expected to complete 50 hours of experience which can be in a number of areas including paid and voluntary work. Research has indicated that workplace experience is something employers value highly and will therefore help give you the edge over the next candidate.
Key rules
- The experience must be evidenced through the completion of an award timesheet.
- The experience must occur during your time as a student.
Paid and non-paid work experience
Student work experience might include a combination of NTU-organised activities such as Nottingham Trent Volunteering, being a member of a sports committee, or paid employment at weekends or in the evening.
The hours required for the various NTU schemes are stipulated by each programme and you should refer to the award literature for more information.
In terms of what constitutes volunteering outside NTU, the following guidance should be used:
- any formal activity that aims to benefit the environment, individuals or groups
- the activity can be undertaken through public, private or voluntary organisations as well as informal community participation and campaigning
- the activity is freely undertaken, not for financial gain and wouldn't generally involve helping close relatives.
