Open Dome Events

The observatory domeThis month's Open Dome Event - The Space Race - Why we have to travel to the stars takes place on 28 November from 8pm to 10pm.

Those attending the event will be taken on a tour of the Optical Observatory, which houses a 20 inch telescope, a 'solar scope' and a range of smaller telescopes. There will also be opportunities to explore the wonders of the sky above us, using the facilities available at the observatory*.

Parking is available only for booked visitors in the South Gate car park. Booked visitors will receive a code that will allow entrance. Exiting the car park does not require any code.

Each Open Dome Event includes a talk focusing on interesting, recent and sometimes surprising topics relating to astronomy. Members of the audience will also have time to talk to scientists about astronomy and ask questions raised during the event.

For future Open Dome Events, please visit our outreach events page.

* Opportunities to observe the sky are largely dependent on weather conditions.
