Rushcliffe MP visits Centre for Effective Learning in Science

The Rt. Hon. Kenneth Clarke QC, MP for Rushcliffe, has visited Nottingham Trent University to hear some of the latest developments taking place on its Clifton campus. The visit, which included a number of presentations and a working lunch, culminated in a tour round the recently opened, multi-million pound, Centre for Effective Learning in Science (CELS).

CELS is one of the 74 HEFCE-funded Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). It is the only one dealing with both traditional ‘core’ sciences of chemistry, biosciences and physics as well as the emerging interdisciplinary sciences such as forensic science and sport science. Since its inception in 2005, over 8,000 young people, and their teachers, have benefited from its activities.

Kenneth Clarke said: “These visits are very important as they allow me to see, first hand, the innovative work that is being undertaken by institutions such as Nottingham Trent University that not only benefits local communities but also has positive ramifications across the world.”
