CELS Interim Evaluation Report - From Concept to Reality

The Centre for Effective Learning in Science (CELS) is based solely within Nottingham Trent University (NTU). It covers both traditional core sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) as well as the newer interdisciplinary sciences (forensic and sports science). CELS main goal is to create a new image for science so that it becomes relevant, accessible and achievable in the context of the lifelong learning agenda.

To date CELS has:

  • developed an innovative approach to reward and recognition
  • provided opportunities for over 10,000 young people to have positive experiences of science
  • offered a wide range of people the opportunity to engage with a CETL
  • acted as a locus for local initiatives to raise aspirations
  • given academic staff opportunities to develop their teaching
  • delivered high quality new facilities to enhance the student learning experience.

In these and other ways, CELS is delivering key aims of the CETL initiative in recognising and promoting excellence by rewarding teachers by giving them space to experiment and enthusing others to do the same. CELS is stimulating excellent practice that is informed by scholarly reflection and innovation, extending tested knowledge by applying it to learning in new contexts, and engaging in active dissemination of good practice.

The interim evaluation report is available for download accompanied by our evaluation framework. If you would like to enquire further about CELS, please contact Dr Karen Moss.
