Teaching Science Concepts
Conceptual understanding in science can be difficult for many students. It is often thought that scientific concepts and principles
are abstract and idealised. This can create the impression that science is irrelevant and divorced from the real world.
Using existing models, CELS is developing new teaching and learning materials. These are specially designed to make science
more relevant to real-life situations, which will in-turn help students understand and engage with the subject at a deeper
level.
CELS is also carrying out research into the area of threshold concepts and troublesome knowledge, the findings from which
will be used in the creation of further resources
Further information and examples of projects can be found on our project pages.
