Ronnie and his skateboard
Academic secondee: Michael Newton
This secondment project involved the development of a physics activity, which features Ronnie, a 14cm tall wooden figure who
is securely bolted to a 9cm long skateboard.
During the activity, Year 9 pupils carryout a series of experiments involving the travel of Ronnie down a ramp, made from
some laminate flooring. Pupils have the opportunity to carryout experiments in Physics, investigating motion and air resistance.
The activity introduces pupils to the use of webcams and software, which, once mastered with Ronnie, will provide an interesting
platform for further physics-based activities.
