Atomic orbitals
An atom can be broken down into two distinct parts, - inside of the nucleus and outside of the nucleus. Within the nucleus
of any given atom are a number of protons (+ charged) and usually neutrons (neutral) present. Electrons (- charged) occupy
the area outside the nucleus. When the number of protons and electrons are equal the charges are neutralised.
It is not possible to pinpoint the exact position of an electron at any particular time, however, by using the Schrödinger
Equation, it is possible to calculate the probability of finding an electron at any point around the nucleus.
