Valence shell electron pair repulsion (VSEPR) theoryIn the VSEPR model it is assumed that molecular geometries occur because of the influence of electron pairs within the system,
more so than the ways in which atoms are bonded together. This is a qualitative theory, which therefore does not involve much
in the way of mathematics.
In essence, the VSEPR theory states that electron pairs of electrons repel each other, therefore for a molecule to be at it’s
most stable – electron pairs must be as far from each other as possible.
