What are your main duties of work?

I make molecules, which are then evaluated for medical use and application.

What are your favourite aspects of the job?

  • Making molecules people have never made before.
  • Finding out how the new molecules interact with the body to cure or treat diseases.
  • Working with other scientists.
  • Solving problems to make efficient processes.
What kind of salary can a graduate expect to earn in this job?

A graduate can expect to earn £25,000 to 26,000 per year.
How has your degree helped you?

I now understand how bonds are made and how we can make them specifically to produce new molecules. I also understand about how the body interacts with drugs, such as aspirin, to give certain effects like relieving aches and pains. My degree also also taught me about good organisation and planning skills.
Any further information?

Research can be a very slow process, but it is great to feel like I am making a contribution to the production of new cures and treatments for the public.
