What degree did you study?

Applied Physics at University of Applied Sciences in Munich, Germany. I followed this with a PhD Physics from Nottingham Trent University.

What are your main duties of work?

  • Development of new technology for future application in jet engines, gas turbines and electrical machines.
  • Managing research projects with multi-disciplinary teams of industrial and academic partners.
  • Consultancy and advice in materials and semiconductor device problems.

What are your favourite aspects of the job?

  • Working on new technologies for future airplanes.
  • Leading large teams of industrial and academic scientists to make these ideas work.
  • Solving technological and organisational problems and interacting with interesting people.

What kind of salary can a graduate expect to earn in this job?

Starting salary is in the region of £20,000 to £25,000 per year. Depending on your type of work, it can increase quickly to over £35,000 per year.

How has your degree helped you?

My degree provided me with good analytical skills and an insight into many aspects of modern technology. It helped me to develop a multi-disciplinary skill-set and quickly understand new areas of science. The degree enabled me to find a job I really enjoy.
