These two versions of the same image show the elliptical galaxy M 105. Both were taken with the Meade LX200 14 inch telescope
on 29 February 2012 by 3rd year Physics with Astrophysics student J. Chambers. They are a composite of 7x90sec V-band exposures.
The left image shows the galaxy in black and white, the right image uses false colours illustrating the extent of the galaxy
and its elliptical shape.
Elliptical galaxies do not have any spiral structure and especially M105 can be assumed to have nearly a spherical distribution
of stars. Note the star just off centre to the top-left compared to the actual galaxy. This galaxy is actually part of a triple
system of other galaxies (M95 and M96) in the constellation of Leo.
