This is an image of the waxing Moon's crescent as seen low on the western horizon on 8 May 2008.
Under these lighting conditions the mountainous regions on the Moon are most prominent. It is also possible to see the slight
hilly areas on the darker flatter regions of the Moon, called 'mare'. Here, the round Mare Crisum is most visible on the right
encircled by mountains.
The image was produced by combining the best four, out of twenty, images that were taken without using any filters.
