Events delivered in school/college

Outreach Opportunities Talk *New 2012-13* - Year 12
We encourage learners to take advantage of the huge range of opportunities to engage with universities prior to applying. We also cover the importance of first-hand research, how taking part in taster days, masterclasses and residentials will benefit their applications to HE and / or jobs and the importance of starting research early. We will show inspiring videos and photos from a number of our own opportunities.

Team Working Skills *New 2012-13* - Year 12 or 13
An interactive workshop that encourages students to identify different roles within a team and how to become an effective team player. Students will explore the importance of team work and the different roles within a team, identify where their strengths lie and develop skills to be effective team players. Maximum 30 students per workshop.

Advanced Learning Skills *New 2012-13* - Year 12 or 13
An interactive workshop aimed at developing learning skills to enhance post-16 study and to prepare students for learning at university. Includes an overview of the difference between studying in FE and HE. Maximum 30 students per workshop.

Communication Skills *New 2012-13* - Year 12 or 13
An interactive workshop providing students with the tools to become successful communicators. Students will be introduced to non-verbal communication, encouraged to think about how communication can be misinterpreted, and how to create positive rapport, negotiate effectively and become influential communicators. Maximum 30 students per workshop.

UCAS talk - Year 12 or 13
This 40 minute presentation is usually delivered to the whole year group to inform students of the UCAS process and how to apply effectively, by providing a university perspective on the UCAS form and the personal statement. By the end of the session students will understand and feel more confident about the whole process.

Personal Statement Workshop - Year 12 or 13
A practical workshop designed to teach students how to write positively about themselves. It includes information about the content, structure and style of personal statement, as well as techniques and examples of how to sell their skills. Applicable for both university and job applications. Maximum 30 students per workshop.

Finance talk - Year 12 or 13
A detailed but accessible 30 minute talk on university finances introducing students to the costs, availability of funding and the process of applying for HE Finance. The session will help students to think realistically and positively about the financial implications of HE study. This talk is also available for delivery to Year 12 students and staff.

Events delivered at NTU

Library visit
Bring a cohort of students from the same academic course; they will be welcomed by the relevant subject liaison librarians, given a tour of the library and shown how to use the cataloguing system. Students will then have the opportunity to research and revise their chosen subject with the support of the liaison librarian. Maximum of 25 students per session.

Campus visit - Year 12
A whole year group or smaller selected group visit the University. Experience and feedback tell us this represents a very effective way of getting students thinking actively about higher education and their next steps. You can design a timetable to suit your cohort by choosing elements from the post-16 menu. PDF icon Maximum 60 students per visit.

Year 12 Residential Summer School (July 2013)
This is a three-day, two-night higher education experience for students about to go in to their final year of level three study. Students engage in a programme of ice breakers, taster sessions, interactive workshops and sports and social activities benefiting from the support of current NTU undergraduates. Students stay overnight in halls of residence.The residential is aimed strictly at widening participation students and is free of charge.

Parents information evenings

Finance talk for parents – 30 minutes
A detailed but accessible talk on university finances introducing parents to the costs, availability of funding and the process of applying for HE finance. Parents will have the opportunity to raise any concerns and have their questions answered so they leave the session more aware of, and thinking more positively about, the financial implications of HE study.

HE evening for parents
We are willing to attend evening events that have a specific HE focus. We can provide an information stand and deliver presentations on various topics for any HE events you organise for parents. We are also willing to host your HE evening at NTU as an effective way of promoting higher education by providing the opportunity for parents to visit a university. We will put together a bespoke programme to suit your needs and provide rooms and facilities to put on a really inspiring event.

General support

Higher education display
We will provide you with a general higher education themed display which informs students about subjects ranging from finance to UCAS and will include all relevant information and important deadlines. The display is changed every 6 weeks by a member of our team.

Bespoke activities
If you have any other activities in mind that you think would be useful for your students please let us know and we can discuss the feasibility of running a bespoke session.

Work experience at NTU
We have a wide range of opportunities available at NTU and welcome applications from students with a keen interest in the area to which they are applying. We advertise our placements through the Education Business Futures (EBF) website. We can also offer talks to staff or students on the importance of work experience and the opportunities available at NTU. For more information please email us.
