If you want to find out more about university you can talk to your teacher and parent or carer to see if you will be able to take part in the events available through Nottingham Trent University. Our latest events are available through our upcoming events page or you can ask your teacher or parent to visit the information in our secondary programme. PDF icon

Events or opportunities we have available for secondary school pupils include:

Activities in schools

We visit schools and have a range of activities for pupils in Years 7-11. Our talks include interactive activities and an opportunity to talk to our current university students. The sessions will introduce you to university and they also help with the decisions you have ahead. This may help you think about your options and the direction you might like to take after school. Ask your teacher if we will be visiting your school this term.

Family Information Evenings

As you start to make decisions in Year 9 you may hear one of our talks about the benefits of studying at a further education college or university at your Year 9 Options evening. Or your parents may be invited to an evening at school where they will be introduced to workshops on student finance, choosing a university and student life. These are for parents or carers of Year 10 and 11 pupils who are thinking about university. For Year 12 and 13 we visit schools and give talks about opportunities in higher education. We run workshops in school for writing personal statements for your university application or to discover the truth about student life by meeting our current students. Ask your teacher if we will be visiting your school.

Family supper visit

You and your family may be able to join us on one of our family supper visits. The evening is a chance for Year 10 pupils with their parents or carers to look around the NTU campus, enjoy a hot meal with people who work at the University and students and take part in a range of activities about higher education.

Visits to the University

A great way to find out more about what university can offer you is to come and visit us. Even if you haven't decided if you will continue to study when you finish school by visiting our University you will get to meet current students, tour our campus and sample some taster sessions to give you a feel for university courses. You'll also work on a project and have the chance to win a prize. If you are in Year 9 ask your teacher about the places available for selected pupils for a day-long visit to NTU.

Subject activity days

As you start thinking about your next steps after your GCSEs you might want to explore new subjects or find out if your interest in one subject could lead you to study it further after you finish school. If you are in Year 10 you may be able to apply for a place on one of our taster events. Opportunities include Engineer IT, a chance to sample design, engineering and technology; Fresh Air for those interested in animal, rural and environmental science or Media Taster Day for those that are interested in finding out more about media production. Talk to your teacher about these opportunities.

Summer schools

To experience first hand what it’s like to be a student you may be able to apply for a place on our Year 9 residential summer school. You will get to sample a range of different subjects, live like a student for two days, stay overnight on our University campus, meet our current University students and have lots of fun. Talk to your teacher to find out if this is available for you.
