Activities delivered in school

Year 7 Aspiration Raising
Following a brief introduction, pupils work in small groups supported by an undergraduate role model to complete three tasks; prospectus quiz; undergraduate question and answers sessions; fun, HE-themed puzzle pack. Maximum 30 pupils per session.

Inspired Year 8s
Following a brief introduction, pupils work in small groups to complete three tasks. Pupils are required to work in teams to describe a higher education related theme by talking about it, drawing it or acting it; an undergraduate answers questions on what inspired them to go to university; a short quiz highlighting the huge range of academic opportunities in higher education. Maximum 30 pupils per session.

Year 9 international student workshop
This interactive workshop introduces pupils to NTU students from different backgrounds and cultures and speakers of other languages. It aims to support EBacc attainment and global citizenship objectives by demonstrating the importance of languages, including opportunities to study/work/live abroad and improved job prospects for those with a foreign language.

Year 10 lifestyle choices
Pupils take part in discussion and practical activities with current NTU students around life choices, the benefits of going to university and obtaining qualifications. Activities include: prioritising life-choice cards, a quiz to work out the most appropriate post-16 study options and a team game to identify famous local graduates from a set of clues.

Year 10 Graduate Apprentice workshop
Pupils are shown a video message from Lord Sugar that outlines their brief: to find the next graduate apprentice. In small groups, pupils work together to interview an NTU student to discover what skills, qualities, experience and qualifications their student has. Pupils present a pitch and Lord Sugar will decide who gets hired. Pupils then complete a short exercise to help them reflect on their own strengths.

Year 11 finance and budgeting workshop
This workshop begins with a simplified version of the financial support arrangements available to university students, why taking study beyond 18 is worth it with some key information about the changing job market and employment opportunities open to graduates.

Year 11 Nest Steps
The workshop begins with a presentation on post-16 pathways, finance and the benefits of higher education. Activities include: a quiz to look at individual pupils’ strengths when working on team activities and an interactive quiz (with the panel made up of undergraduates and teachers) called ‘University Question Time’.
