Here you will find frameworks and tools that will assist in reviewing and developing your practice in your role and career development.

For All Staff

The NTU Competency Framework PDF icon is an essential component in developing and evidencing performance across a number of core behaviours which are key to effective performance in any role. The competencies relevant to your role are identified in the person specification for your role, and are discussed at your PDCR.

The competencies should be considered in relation to other professional standards frameworks, such as those listed below or in place from professional bodies.

  • The Competency development tool has been designed to offer you suggestions for activities to develop relevant competencies articulated in the NTU Competency Framework.

For staff who teach and support learning

  • On the Learning and Teaching tab you will find information on the NTU Learning and Teaching Professional Development Framework which articulates the areas of practice core knowledge and professional values expected of those who teach and / or support learning at different stages of expertise, that directly align with national standards in UKPSF.  It also signposts learning and teaching professional development opportunities including how you can apply for Higher Education Academy-accredited professional recognition that is nationally recognised across the HE sector.

Staff who engage in research

  • On the Research tab you will find information on the Researcher Development Framework (RDF) which articulates the knowledge, skills and attributes of highly effective researchers and the Researcher CPD Tool which brings together NTU’s priority areas for research with key development opportunities.
