Please note that this is not definitive list of all events run by CPLD. There may be other courses that you may find useful on the other tabs within the course directory.

Banner

The Banner Student Database is the student database used throughout NTU and all student data is kept on it.

Banner Navigation - This course is designed to teach new staff how to use Banner and must be completed before attending other Banner training courses. It also puts Banner in context in regards to the University.

CRM Dynamics for beginners - This course is an online starter course for using the University Customer Relationship Management system (Dynamics). It’s a pre-requisite for all other Dynamics courses which are run by the Integrated Marketing team.

Facility one off bookings

Rhythmyx Content Management System - Rhythmyx is the Content Management System deployed to maintain and manage the University web estate. This training is suitable for members of professional services staff who are responsible for either maintaining websites built in Rhythmyx or for authorising content changes.

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Excel Charts - This course covers the creation and formatting of charts in Excel 2010. Delegates will practice producing charts from data and amending all aspects of charts.

Microsoft Excel Lookups - This course covers the use of lookup and logical functions in Excel 2010 by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice using these functions to locate data.

Microsoft Excel Organising Data - This course covers the use tools for organising and summarising data Excel 2010 by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice a range of functions related to organising data.

Microsoft Excel Pivot Tables - This course covers the creation and formatting of pivot tables and pivot charts in Excel 2010. Delegates will practice producing and editing pivot tables and charts.

Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Features - This course covers how to create and efficiently organise a spreadsheet by demonstration and hands on use. Hints and Tips will be given for speeding up spreadsheet creation and use. Delegates will practice a wide range of functions related to a spreadsheets.

Microsoft Outlook Advanced Email - This course covers the more advanced email options. These include delivery options, changing reply settings, using the different panes in the Inbox, setting up delegates to work on your behalf and using the contacts folder for external contacts.

Microsoft Outlook Calendar - This course covers the use of Calendars in Outlook 2010 by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice navigating around the calendar, changing the view, creating and managing appointments, events and meetings.

Microsoft Outlook Mail Organisation - This course covers how to organise email in Outlook 2010 by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will create, organise and share different types of folders, use archive, set up rules, set up out of office and signatures.

Microsoft Outlook Using Tasks - This course covers the use of Tasks in Outlook 2010 by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice creating, managing tasks and delegating tasks.

Microsoft PowerPoint Adding Audio and Video to a Presentation - This course looks at how to record narration and add audio (MP3, WAV) or video (from a file or from the web), into PowerPoint presentation slides. It will also give you the opportunity to practise with your own audio and video files.

Microsoft PowerPoint Creating Accessible Presentations for an Online Audience - This course aims to enable you to make your presentations more accessible for all audience members, including those using assistive technology. It will also look at how these presentations can be delivered online via NOW.

Microsoft PowerPoint Enhancing your Presentations - This course looks at the way in which you can use Microsoft PowerPoint to support meetings, teaching sessions and presentations. It will also provide advice on breaking up information, slide layout, slide animation and the use of presentation notes.

Microsoft Word Graphics - This course covers the use of graphics in Word by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice inserting a variety of graphics, charts and SmartArt and how to format them.

Microsoft Word Mail Merge - This course covers the use of the Mail Merge facility in Word by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice producing mail merge letters, emails, and labels from a variety of data sources.

Microsoft Word Styles - This course covers the use of styles in Word by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will practice applying, creating and editing styles and use the Navigation Pane.

Microsoft Word Working With Longer Documents - This course covers the use tools for creating longer documents in Word by demonstration and hands on use. Delegates will use sections, headers and foots, table of contents and reference facilities.

 

NOW

NOW: Enabling Online Submission and Providing eFeedback to your Students - This course is aimed at staff interested in enabling students to submit their work online through NOW and providing online feedback to students. This course looks at the advantages of using an online approach to submission and feedback as well as using NOW’s Dropbox tool.

NOW: How to get your Module Online - This course covers the basics of creating an online presence for your module in NTU's virtual learning environment: NOW. Create and upload your resources, add notices with links to those resources, and contact groups of students.

NOW: Introduction to Using Technology in Learning and Teaching - This course provides an introduction to, and context around, blending new technologies into existing learning and teaching delivery to support, maintain and enhance the quality of learning and teaching experience for both students and staff at NTU.

NOW Surgery - If there is a specific area of NOW you would like help or advice with you can book a 30-minute surgery slot with colleagues from CADQ and CPLD who can provide dedicated one-to-one advice and support on using NOW in your learning and teaching.

NOW: Organising and Tracking your Module: Groups, Registers and Release Conditions - This course will assist you to enhance the delivery of your module with a selection of NOW tools. Provide reading lists, create registers and direct resources at specific students.

NOW: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle with NOW's Learning Repository - Learn how to find fresh new learning resources for your NOW learning room, enhancing the type and range of resources offered to students. Share your own resources with colleagues and across your learning rooms and find further sources of openly available learning resources.

NOW: Ten Ways to Spice up your Learning Room with Dynamic Content - This course looks at ten ideas to make your NOW learning room a rich and varied resource with dynamically updated content, images, and sources of information.

Equality and Diversity

Communicating with Care - This course enables staff to understand and engage with one of the key positive behaviours in the workplace valued by the University. It provides a framework for understanding the University’s commitment in relation to equality and dignity and equips participants with tools for effective and appropriate communication.

Dignity at Work - This course introduces staff to concepts, practices and behavioural characteristics of the culture of dignity and respect in the workplace that the University values. It gives participants an opportunity to explore how positive behaviours of: respecting others; behaving with integrity and communicating with care, can be employed effectively.

Managing Equality and Dignity at NTU - This is the foundation course of the equality and diversity learning and development programme for NTU managers. It takes account of key underpinning principles of equality and has been specifically designed to equip managers with core competencies in equality and diversity and managing equality and diversity.

Induction

Vice-Chancellor's Welcome - An opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor to welcome new appointees to Nottingham Trent University. He will speak about the University’s mission and strategic aims and outline recent achievements and successes.

Managing Induction - This event will enable managers to prepare effective local induction programmes.

Skills and Management Development

The events within this section can be attended individually although many can be attended as part of a development programme. For details of our development programmes please see the 'Development programmes' section at the bottom of this page.

Action Learning Set - This is an introduction to the aims and process of Action Learning, giving delegates the opportunity to take part in two taster Action Learning Set meetings in order to work on real problems, focusing on learning and actually implementing solutions.

Building the Team - This is an introduction to team development models to help develop knowledge and understanding of team building.

Customer Service for Managers - This course will provide guidance for the management of providing gold standard customer service.

Communicating for impact and influence - This workshop is for managers to understand how communication and interpersonal skills affect managerial performance in the workplace.

Dealing Effectively with People - This event will explore strategies for dealing effectively with people at work.

Developing Self and Others - This event will support managers in developing knowledge and understanding of developing themselves and others within the team. 

Emotionally Intelligent Leadership - This course addresses how participants are able to adopt an effective leadership style to motivate staff to achieve NTU values and goals.

Employee Engagement: Improving Performance through Engagement - This course will explore the concept of employee engagement and the contribution of discretionary effort to increased performance and the achievement of NTU values and goals.

Giving and Receiving Feedback - This event will provide a framework for providing effective feedback.

Interpersonal Communication - This event will introduce managers to techniques to improve their interpersonal skills.

Interviewing Skills for Workplace Situations - This event focuses on the generic knowledge and skills a manager needs to develop to conduct a range of interviews in the workplace.

Introduction to Finance for Managers - This is an introduction to finance management at NTU, with emphasis on financial control, budgeting and purchasing.

Introduction to Leadership - This event will provide an introductory knowledge and understanding of leadership qualities and behaviours.

Leadership and NTU - This event will enable managers to understand leadership styles and consider the effectiveness of their own leadership capability and performance in meeting NTU values and strategic goals.

Managing Change - This event will provide managers with Change Management techniques.

Managing Conflict - This event is for managers to develop awareness of their conflict styles and apply a conflict resolution model to address conflict in the workplace.

Managing Meetings - This event will give guidance on how to manage and contribute to a meeting.

Managing Team Events - This event will help managers prepare, conduct and implement the learning in a team event.

Motivation - This event will assist in developing knowledge and understanding of how to motivate the team to improve performance at work.

PDCR for Managers - This event will equip managers with the key knowledge and skills to conduct NTU Performance, Development and Contribution Reviews.

Planning and Organising - This event is an introduction to achieving objectives through effective and efficient planning.

Problem Solving and Decision Making - This event will develop knowledge and understanding of solving problems and making decisions.

Recruitment and Selection of New Staff - This course equips managers with the key knowledge and skills to carry out a staff recruitment exercise at NTU.

Recruitment and Selection of New Staff Refresher - This event is to update managers who have attended 'Recruitment and Selection for New Staff' with the key knowledge and skills to carry out a recruitment exercise at NTU.

Role of a Manger - This event will help you understand the role and responsibilities of the First Line Manager within NTU.

Role of the Middle Manager - This course will help you understand the role and responsibilities of the Middle Manager within NTU and assess your development needs to improve your management performance.

Structuring Professional Presentation - This course will help you recognise the essentials of preparing and delivering a short presentation.

Supporting Gold Standard Customer Service at NTU - This short induction gives an overview of the content for the Supporting Gold Standard Customer Service at NTU on-line course. It will also explain how to access and effectively use the learning material which is on NOW.

Time Management and Delegation - This event will help identify barriers to effective time management in the workplace and explore practical ways to overcome them.

Management Development Programmes

The First Line Managers Development PDF icon  includes some of the courses listed above and is a structured programme, recognised by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), introducing the management role for all those in or aspiring to First Line Management positions.
