Digital practice
What do we mean by digital practice?
Digital practice is the term that encompasses all of the activities we undertake at NTU that use some form of digital technology. This includes a range of software and hardware plus guidance and best practice about using technologies.
Some of the technology we support includes:
- Microsoft Office – Microsoft® Office Suite
- NTU Systems – Banner, Facility, Dynamics
- Learning Technologies – NOW, Newton Teaching Technology, NOW Learning Repository
- communications software and hardware - Live Meeting, IP Phones
- other site licensed software.
For whom is this service or area most relevant?
We support the use of technologies, so this area of our work is of relevant to all staff.
What informs our approach to professional development in this area?
We work closely with various stakeholders and departments to ensure we are aligned to support university-wide projects. As such we work with Information Systems (IS), the Centre for Academic Development and Quality (CADQ), Library and Learning Resources (LLR) as well as Schools and Colleges.
Our practice is based on informed research from organisations such as the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC), the Association for Learning Technology (ALT), Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA), university and Colleges Information Systems Association (UCISA) as well as best practice in particular fields.
What types of activity do we deliver or support in this area of work?
We offer a wide variety of developmental activities including:
- workshops
- short task specific courses (one to three hours)
- longer courses (one to two days)
- bespoke programmes
- webinars
- skills gap analysis
- online learning materials
- communities of practice
- mentoring and coaching.
Who delivers or facilitates the service?
The Centre for Professional Learning and Development (CPLD) works in collaboration with colleagues from other professional services.
Summary of key current initiatives in this area
We are currently developing and offering learning activities for staff to support the:
- Student Assessment
- use of NOW
- clearing
- Banner date integrity
- Employability
This includes:
- working with IS on the implementation of Gradebook in Banner
- supporting E-assessment at NTU
- developing new support and courses for NOW
- working with CADQ on NOW's Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching learning room
- supporting the Acceler8 award
- working with CADQ, IS and other stakeholders to ensure our materials are up to date and aligned with NTU policy
