Academic staff
We are currently working with the Schools and Colleges to implement a new Learning and Teaching Professional Development Framework, designed to provide appropriate learning and teaching professional development for all staff who teach and/or support learning at all stages of their career at NTU.
What this means for new academic staff:
- HE Teaching Qualifications and Professional Recognition
You will be required to gain professional recognition of your practice equivalent to a minimum of HEA Fellow within three years of starting at NTU unless you already have HEA Fellowship, or are contracted as an HPL (Hourly Paid Lecturer). A number of different options (including course-based routes, and a direct application route for more experienced staff) are under development. New colleagues will no longer be required to complete a PGCHE, although this route will remain one of the course options. - New induction programme – Introduction to Academic Policy and Practice at NTU (IAPP)
All new academic staff (whether permanent, full-time, part-time or hourly-paid, experienced or new to teaching and learning in HE) will be asked to complete a short CPLD programme as part of their probation period, to orientate them to learning and teaching policy and practice at NTU.
Your Academic Team Leader (ATL) will discuss your learning and teaching professional development with you during your probation period, and agree a plan with you for addressing those.
