Leading and managing
What do we mean by leadership and management?
- Leadership is the setting of a new direction or vision for a group, i.e. a leader is the spearhead for that new direction.
- Management controls or directs people / resources in a group according to principles or values that have already been established.
The development of effective leadership and management skills is essential for staff in all organisations, but particularly relevant to those in supervisory and management roles. These skills enable staff to lead and deliver the mission of the University.
Manager responsibilities include:
- effective resource management (including human resources, finance)
- health and safety
- Equality and Dignity
- service delivery and many other facets.
This area of our work aims to provide support to colleagues to enable them to undertake their management or leadership roles effectively, with confidence and within the appropriate legal and statutory frameworks.
