Are you a member of staff new to research? Are you starting out as a postgraduate research student? If so, there is a range of development opportunities to help get you started.

For everyone new to research
Research Skills Online is a suite of interactive tutorials exploring key practices in research and is available to postgraduate researchers and any staff involved in research activities. They can be accessed via the resources section of NOW.

N.B. Due to licensing restrictions these resources are not available for undergraduate and taught postgraduate use.

For postgraduate research students
As part of your studies you will be expected to complete a course of training relevant to your research project. The Graduate School office and your supervisory team are the first points of contact for this.

In addition, CPLD offer a number of opportunities for you to develop transferable skills for research and enhance your career prospects which includes the Effective Researcher programme within year first year. Designed by Vitae it provides experiential learning activities for key transferable skills that will support your professional development throughout your studies and beyond into your research-based career.

Staff new to research
To get you started your line manager will be able to help you identify a suitable research group, research cluster or project within your School or Department.

You might also wish to use the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) to identify your areas for development and the NTU RCPD Tool which lists key development opportunities which are mapped to the RDF. The Tool was designed for use within the PDCR process but might also be useful for postgraduate research students in discussion with their Director of Studies. Both the Vitae Researcher Development Framework and the NTU RCPD Tool can be found on the Research tab on the CPD Frameworks page on our website.
