South Africa

Balls to Poverty is a charity based in South Nottingham College. The charity works with and for young people in Nottingham, South Africa and Uganda, which for NTU students incorporates a coaching programme in South Africa. The charity raises money to buy footballs and rugby balls to take out to South Africa and Uganda to kids in townships in the poorest areas of the country.

Prior to leaving to coach in South Africa, volunteers will be expected to take part in an FA Level One Coaching Programme and deliver a set number of hours delivering coaching programmes in local Nottingham schools.

The Balls to Poverty Programme uses the international language of sport to reach young people in this country, South Africa and Uganda, to unlock hidden potential through empowerment and inspiration. See previous case studies of students working for Balls to Poverty.

Please note – This project is only open to students on sports related courses or those on either the NTU men's or women's football teams.
